Background: Brienne of Tarth, is the daughter and heir of Lord Selwyn Tarth of Evenfall Hall. In her youth, Brienne dreamed of becoming a knight, and trained obsessively to eventually become a fearsome warrior as an adult. Her father had attempted to wed her to several important houses throughout the Stormlands, but to no avail. Instead, she chose to join the cause of Renly Baratheon during the War of the Five Kings, and after defeating Ser Loras Tyrell to win a tournament, she is named to Renly's "Rainbow Guard." Brienne serves Renly loyally until he is assassinated and she is blamed. She escapes with the help of Catelyn Stark, and later declares her new allegiance to House Stark. Pledged to serve Catelyn Stark and ensure the safety of her daughters, Brienne journeys throughout Westeros to find and rescue Arya and Sansa Stark. She eventually finds herself in the north, and avenges Renly's death by killing Stannis Baratheon, the man who orchestrated her former liege's assassination. She is later reunited with the Starks, and remains at Winterfell to protect them. On the orders of Sansa Stark, Brienne travels south once more to attend the meeting between Daenerys Targaryen, Cersei Lannister, and their respective allies at the Dragonpit.
