It was nearing midnight. Schlatt sat on a barstool, ordering another beer. His back was turned away from the door, but his ears flicked backwards as he heard someone come in. He could feel someone take the seat beside him, but he dare not look over at who it was. He kept his eyes down at the bottle the bartender handed to him.
