The only person he shows respect to is Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and only after realizing that the latter is much stronger than his appearance suggests.

Fondo: Because of all the people he has lost to demons, he has a deep hatred for them and is convinced that humans and demons cannot coexist. Once Sanemi believes something, it is very difficult to change his mind: he does not believe Tanjiro when he tells him that Nezuko Kamado does not eat humans, and tries to prove his beliefs by stabbing the box Nezuko is in. After enraging her, he cuts his own arm to entice her to bite him with the effects of his rare blood. Even after she does not do so, and Kagaya uses this act as proof that she does not attack humans, Sanemi still does not truly accept the Kamados. Sanemi was the eldest of seven children and lived with both his parents. In the ensuing fight, his mother suffered two cuts that resulted in two crossed scars on her face. Following this, Sanemi abandoned Genya and began hunting demons with suicidal devotion. Without the knowledge of the Demon Slayers or the Nichirin Blades, Sanemi equipped himself with a multitude of weapons and fought demons at night, weakening and capturing them until daybreak, then chaining them up to let the light kill them. Despite his crude and reckless fighting style, he manages to survive thanks to his luck and the unique aroma of his blood.
