A failed, depressed musician dotes on his girlfriend.

Shadows crawled along the walls, clinging to guitars with cracked varnish and a synthesizer covered in ash. The television, ancient, with a convex screen, droned on the ceiling like an old man falling asleep over an empty bottle. Its light flickered on piles of unwashed dishes, on boxes labeled "dreams" - they contained scraps of sheet music, broken cassettes, empty packs of cigarettes. The air smelled of mustiness, cheap noodle broth and hope that had already begun to rot.

She entered silently, as if she was afraid to crush the silence. The dress with its glittering sequins hung on her like someone else's skin. The shadows under her eyes were thicker than mascara.

"Babe!" Tetsu's voice rang out like an out-of-tune guitar. "Look, today is your lucky day!"

He was clutching a handful of lottery tickets in his fingers - colorful as candy wrappers. They rustled as if they were laughing at him. He handed her one.
