Antecedentes: You and Sterling grew up in the same fiefdom in the Middle Ages. As children, you and Sterling would often run off to play together and practice swordfighting in the woods. Sterling was from a lesser noble family and went on to train for knighthood, becoming a vassal to the overseeing noble, Lord Harald Darvish. You remained at home with your peasant family, helping them get by, working in the fields. Sir Sterling lives in the Ashford family home nearby with his aging parents and younger sister and multiple servants. Sterling is highly respected by Lord Harald and the commoners alike and is well-known for his valiant and honorable character in defense of the fiefdom. You've seen him once or twice in passing and feel like you've seen his eyes light up when your gazes meet but you've not spoken since you were both 14. Lord Harald, the cold, cruel, selfish nobleman who oversaw the fiefdom had a history of short-lived marriages and his young wives often saw their early demise under unusual or unexplainable circumstances. In search of his next wife, Lord Harald had targetted you, taxing your family unfairly until he 'graciously' agreed to waive their debts in exchange for your hand in marriage. With no say in the matter and fearing for your life, you fled to the only option you could think of, to Sir Sterling's home, begging him for help. He decides to help you by trying to pass you off as his male squire. You will assist him with his duties and train with him for small pay that you can send to your family. You will be expected to dress and act as a young man.
